There's nothing worse than exercise myths that sabotage all of your efforts! You might think you've caught them all, but believe it or not, there are still dozens of exercise myths out there, and some of them come from supposedly reliable sources: workout magazines, television programs, and websites that should know better. Bust these exercise myths and make the most of your workouts!
1. You only need exercise if you're trying to lose weight.
This is one of the worst exercise myths around. Exercise is, of course, extremely important to weight loss. But it has a host of other benefits too! Exercise strengthens your heart, increases your energy, improves your health, and releases feel-good brain chemicals into your body. Exercise is much more than a weight-loss tool. Your body was made to move, so keep it in action!
2. Exercise means going to the gym.
Exercise is different for everyone. Some people find the gym an effective way to keep moving. For others, though, this is one of those exercise myths that turn them off exercise altogether! If the gym isn't your thing, try taking a class, working out to a video, or even taking a walk. It doesn't matter what you do as long as you do it!
3. The best aerobic exercise is jogging.
Actually, jogging is terrible on your joints and knees. That doesn't mean you shouldn't do it, of course -- but I certainly wouldn't force yourself into it. You can get great aerobic workouts from dancing, skipping, aqua-aerobics, and many others.
4. There's no mental benefit from exercise.
Of all the exercise myths, this is the one that's annoyed scientists the most. Scientific experiments and analyses have proven the benefits of exercise time and time again. More specifically, exercise programs that link the mind and body (such as yoga and Pilates) have proven their effectiveness to the point where many doctors recommend them to improve health and reduce stress.
5. Exercise is boring.
There are so many kinds of exercise these days, you're bound to find something you like. Are you a traditionalist? Try swimming, aerobics, or the gym. A go-getter? What about kickboxing or karate? A non-conformist? Try belly dancing, yoga, or stripaerobics. The choices are wide open!
Exercise is an essential part of your body's regimen. Don't let exercise myths scare you off from the most rewarding half-hour you'll undertake all day!
A friend is someone who listens and cares, a friend is someone who's always there. A friend brings happiness that can warm and mend. I'm glad that I can call you a friend. A lot of people have entered my life, but one thing remains true... I've never met a single soul who has touched my heart like you.
